The Blockchain-based Service Network (hereinafter “Service Network or “BSN”) is a cross-cloud, cross-portal, cross-framework global public infrastructure network used to deploy and operate all types of blockchain applications, which was jointly established by State Information Center, China Mobile Communications Corporation, China UnionPay Co. Ltd., and Beijing Red Date Technology Co., Ltd. The Internet is formed by the connection of all cloud resources and data centers using TCP/IP protocol, and the BSN is formed by the connection of all cloud resources and data centers using a set of blockchain operating environment protocols. Both are public infrastructure and do not belong to any single organization.
The BSN aims to solve the current high cost problem of blockchain application development and deployment, providing a public blockchain resource environment for developers with the concept of Internet, and greatly reducing the costs of development, deployment, operation, maintenance, connectivity and supervision of blockchain applications, so as to accelerate the development and universal adaption of blockchain technology.
The BSN consists of public city nodes that are located all over the world. On public city nodes, application publishers and users can publish, manage and add unlimited number of blockchain applications by using one single key certificate and no longer need to create their own blockchain operation environments from scratch. All applications are passed through a load balancing mechanism so that consumption of resources is optimized, reducing operating costs to just 20% of traditional blockchain cloud services, costing merely $150-$300 (2,000-3,000 CNY) a year to form a chain and start operating. Everyone, from students to large enterprises, is able to use the BSN for innovation and entrepreneurship.
The BSN will be the first global infrastructure autonomously innovated by China and can be rapidly deployed on a global scale. At the moment, the BSN already supports and is being adapted for consortium blockchain frameworks including Hyperledger Fabric, FISCO BCOS, Fabric with Chinese SM4 Encryption Algorithm, CITA, Wutong Chain, Brochain and Baidu’s XuperChain to convenience developers with even more choice. Within each BSN portal, developers with absolutely no blockchain development experience will be able to use their own familiar programming language to develop blockchain applications.
The BSN is an open blockchain service network that any enterprise and business owning cloud services and data centers can apply to create a public city node and connect to the network for free. BSN implements a multi-portal policy. Cloud service providers and framework providers that have joined BSN can choose to set up their own portals and manage their own developers and published applications. Revenue from cloud resource sales from each portal will be shared with the owner of the city nodes involved. As of the end of April 2020, with the great support of China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom, and AWS, the BSN has established or is in the process of establishing more than 110 domestic public city nodes and 8 international public city nodes, which are spread out on all continents except Antarctica. By the end of 2020, the BSN is expected to have nearly 200 public city nodes all around the world.
